Our players have also been brought together by live events like our presence at the 2009 WSOP and our regular PKR Live tournaments, which they find both fun and rewarding.
What has been the company’s biggest breakthrough in 2009?
The new PKR.com website has seen a major reworking of both the look and feel of our brand and has also ushered in a set of next generation social media tools and community features to match the increasingly advanced level of our game.
What has been the biggest hurdle you’ve had to overcome?
The UIGEA being brought in literally on the eve of our launch meant we had to react and change our strategy very quickly. Also, going from zero to three million customers has presented us with massive challenges and we’ve had to continually scale-up our business to respond to such rapid growth.
As much as you can disclose, what milestones are you striving for in 2010?
We are looking to continue developing and improving our poker offering so that we are always on the cutting edge with our innovative formats. We are also planning to pass the 4.5 million registered users mark, with the longer-term goal being to break into the top ten poker networks on PokerScout.
What is it about PKR’s site that continues to attract such a vibrant and fun-loving poker community?
It starts with the game - players put a lot of their personality into their characters and the way they play the game and use emotes to communicate with each other. The community tools on the website mentioned earlier are a big part of it too, but ultimately it comes down to having an extremely satisfying experience playing poker.
