Fox Sports Net Broadens WPT Broadcast License
WPT Enterprises, Inc. and News Corporation's Fox Sports Network announced that the television broadcast license will include World Poker Tour Season VIII. Filming for the new season begins later on this year and is the latest WPT programming that is scheduled for FSN.
"The World Poker Tour has a loyal and passionate fan base that has made the WPT one of the most popular programs on FSN," said George Greenberg, FSN executive vice president. "We're thrilled to be airing Season 8 and look forward to another great year of WPT championship poker."
The renowned WPT, which films its money-rich tournaments in top casinos around North America, will put together 26 hour-long episodes from Season VIII events. Stipulated in the broadcast license, FSN will get exclusive rights to broadcast those episodes in the United States across its cable network. Specific time slots and schedules will be solidified soon.
Last year, FSN aired WPT's inaugural Season I and the feedback was tremendous. They then followed with exclusive broadcasting of WPT Season VII episodes, which air every Sunday night. Plus, FSN airs ClubWPT.com, which is a TV series based on WPT's unique subscription poker offering.
"Fox Sports Net and News Corporation have far exceeded our partnership expectations and we are thrilled to continue growing our strategic relationship," said Steven Lipscomb, WPT founder, president and CEO. "Airing our eighth season on the nation's prime sports network truly underscores the force behind the WPT brand and poker as a televised sport."
