Oodles of Rubles
PokerStars has announced a new series in its worldwide, regionally-themed poker tours with the creation of the Russian Poker Tour (RPT). The first two stop have been announced as PokerStars looks to branch out into one of worlds poker's most rapidly emerging markets.
St Petersburg and Moscow, two of the world's most historic and intriguing cities, will host the inaugural RPT events, kicking off in St Petersburg.
That will then be followed by another six day event in Moscow from February 22-28.
And they are not mucking about either - the buy-in for Moscow is a whopping $10,000.
However, the usual plethora of freerolls, satellites and qualifiers are taking place on PokerStars.com as we speak. The packages up for grabs include buy-ins, hotel accommodation and spending money.
Russian Poker is truly in the ascendancy at the moment, on the back of some huge successes for the nation's players over the past couple of years.
Alex Kravchenko won the WSOP event in 2007, Alexander Kostritsyn won the Aussie Millions in 2008 and Ivan Demidov came painfully close to an incredible double triumph in the WSOP and WSOPE this year - narrowly finishing second and third respectively in the two events.
No doubt these players will be among the favourites when the RPT kicks off.
The RPT adds to PokerStars' packed portfolio of events that also includes the European Poker Tour, Latin America Poker Tour and Asia Pacific Poker Tour.
