Due to the online poker boom that we have all experienced online gambling firm 888 quoted a 52 per cent rise in revenues to a whopping £152.5 million. The biggest earners for the online casino and poker group was still the online casino games, like Blackjack and Roulette, which netted the company around £90.6m which is a 16 per cent rise on 2004.
But it was still online poker that was the biggest surprise, online poker for the casino group saw a real surge in interest over the last year, with revenues up 179 per cent to £61.9m. Even though the online casino and poker room operates out of Gibraltar, 888's 23.2 million registered players are based across 150 different countries.
The number of members that play for real money, those who have registered and also take part in games and gamble for cash, hit 5.5 million by the end of 2005, up 49 per cent since December 2004.
The poker popularity trend has been seen in other online gambling firms - with 32Red last month reporting a 339 per cent increase in revenues from the game.
