New online gambling site, Spadester

18/12/2007
Spades is a popular card game that does not receive the online treatment it deserves. Now, online gambling site, Spadester.com is providing a place for players to enjoy this game.

The three different versions, i.e. Individual, where four players compete against each other; Cutthroat, the same version except with three players; and Partnership, which is played with two pairs of two.

The point of the game is for players to win a Spade hand, or a ‘trick’, which is attained by playing either the highest card or the highest spade. Each player has to bid a number of tricks from 0 - 13, or how many plays they will win, and each player is responsible for making their own tricks without the help of a partner. Single players are also allowed to bid nil or blind nil.

Once everyone has placed their bids, the player to the dealer's left will begin with any card except a spade for the first trick. Continuing clockwise, each player in turn must follow suit. If they are unable to follow suit, the player may play any card.

When there is a player who plays a spade during the round, the trick is won by the highest spade played. If no spade is played, the highest card of the suit led wins the trick and the winner of each trick will lead or begin the next one. Spades may not be led until either a player has played a spade or the leader has nothing but spades left in hand.
