Neymar’s injury shakes up Brazil’s odds
Not only have Brazil lost their star-striker to injury, but the news he won’t be playing for the remainder of the World Cup has left the team’s spot as favourites to win in their upcoming match against Germany, and indeed the entire tournament, on shaky ground.
Neymar’s unfortunate back injury late into the recent quarter-final, no doubt combined with Thiago Silva’s suspension, saw punters deserting Brazil and banking on Germany winning the much-anticipated semi-final against the hosts instead.
In the aftermath of Friday’s 2-1 win against Columbia Germany’s odds shortened from 11-10 to 10-11, while Brazil’s drifted to 9-5 with Boylesports, Hills and Paddy Power to win in normal time. Ladbrokes lengthened odds from 5-4 to 7-4.
After a few days of letting the dust settle the odds are now incredibly close with most operators offering a best of 9-5 for either team to win, but Germany still remains a slightly more popular choice for punters.
In terms of their chances for cup, following the confirmation that Neymar had been ruled out of the tournament Sky Bet by pushed Brazil’s odds from 7-4 to 5-2 alongside Argentina, making Germany the 12-5 favourites.
SportingBet, Paddy Power and Ladbrokes were among a number of other operators to set Brazils odds at 5-2.
As it stands today a number of operators have left Brazils odds the same. However the best odds for the hosts to win are set at 11-4 by Bet365, William Hill, Unibet and others.
Similarly disparities among the four semi-finalists have narrowed, with similar odds being offered across operators.
Nevertheless Brazil are ranked below Argentina and Germany as favourites to win, although they have just about secured the punters vote.
Odds Checker puts Brazil to win as the most popular bet, with 36.48% of wagers placed on the team. They are followed by Argentina with 26.98% of all bets.
Many are concerned about Brazil’s lack of attacking power now Neymar – their top goal scorer – is unable to play. He leads the team with four goals while his peers Hulk and Fred have only secured a single goal between them.
