Nigeria v Argentina betting preview

30/6/2014
Germany head into their Second Round match with Algeria as strong favourites for a victory that would see them progress to the Quarter Finals for the ninth consecutive World Cup tournament.

Odds comparison site easyodds.com can reveal that Joachim Loew's side are best price 1/3 to win the match in 90 minutes and just 1/7 to qualify through any method. Algeria, who impressed in progressing from Group H, are as long as 11/1 to cause an upset, with the draw at 49/10.

Germany have lost both of their previous meetings with Algeria in all competitions, but the strength of their current squad and a run of recent form which sees them unbeaten in their last 14 matches, makes the former World Champions heavy favourites with the bookmakers.

Germany have scored 35 times in those 14 matches and in Thomas Mueller they have one of the tournament's in-form attackers. The Bayern Munich man has four goals to his name already and is best odds of 5/6 to add to that against Algeria. He's on offer at 7/2 to be first goal scorer.

Interestingly 12 of Germany's last 15 goals have been scored in the second half of matches. The match to be a draw at half time with Germany going onto win is 7/2 at BetVictor, while it is 5/6 with Bet365 that a goal is scored in the 76th minute or later.

Algeria are the sixth African team to reach the knockout stages of a World Cup and they have the capacity to cause Germany problems. Having found the net in each of their last 16 matches, the Algerians have also registered five different scorers in the group stages, only bettered by Colombia. Both teams to score in Porto Alegre tonight is 11/10 through easyodds.com and Betway.

Best price match odds:

Germany - 1/3
Algeria - 11/1
Draw - 49/10
