William Hill signs Glenn Hoddle as World Cup blogger

Former England manager Glenn Hoddle has inked a deal with bookmaker William Hill to write an exclusive blog – City of Hod.

The Spurs legend will be penning his thoughts on England's progress from his unique standpoint as an ITV pundit in Brazil.

“Hoddle is in the absolute thick of the action – he will be based in Rio for the tournament and knows everyone and everything you need to know,” said Jem Maidment, head of public relations at William Hill Online.

Hoddle was twice beaten in the World Cup quarter-finals by Argentina; once as a player in 1986 and once as a manger after the infamous penalty shoot-out in 1998.

"With my experience, knowledge and passion I look forward to giving genuine insights into the pressures of being England manager – dubbed, The Impossible Job – and maybe help William Hill’s punters win some money along the way," said Hoddle.

The column will appear on both and its BetNation microsite, which launched last week.

The highlight of the blog so far is this gem: "Joe Hart is head and shoulders - pardon the pun! - ahead of the rest and a player Roy cannot do without in Brazil."
