Hills’ Acca Insurance refunds millionth bet
William Hill refunded their one millionth losing bet of the season on Sunday.
Darren Bent’s late equaliser for Fulham against Manchester United saw the bookies reach the milestone via their Acca Insurance feature, which offers free bets to online customers who are let down by one selection within an accumulator.
Acca Insurance sees punters who place a straight accumulator bet of six or more match betting selections refunded with a free bet if only one of their choices loses.
The Insurance, which launched on mobile in 2012 before being extended to online and tablet last year, applies to all matches and competitions covered by William Hill.
The firm estimate that over 1.7 million losing bets could be credited back by the end of the season.
William Hill Online spokesman Jem Maidment said: “To refund one million losing football bets since August – offering another bet of the same value, for free - would have been unheard of a few short years ago.
“We are constantly innovating and Acca Insurance, with its unrivalled scale and number of refunds, continues to keep us ahead of the pack.”
