More “objective” market proving popular for BetVictor
Online bookmakers BetVictor are reporting a surge in the take-up of an alternative to traditional ‘man of the match’ football betting.
Created in collaboration with football statistics website WhoScored.com, punters can now bet on who will be the Highest Rated Player in a particular match.
The new bet, which is being marketed as a more “scientific” and “objective” way of backing the best player in a game, has enjoyed a 300% rise in popularity within its first month.
Offered on all Premier League fixtures as well as numerous European and international games, WhoScored.com’s Highest Rated Player market is based on a ratings system developed from an algorithm analysing over 200 raw statistics collected by sports data firm Opta which are calculated and updated live during every second of a match.
BetVictor spokesman Charlie McCann said: “We have been staggered by the number of customers, new and old, who have got involved in our markets involving the Highest Rated Player, Player with Most Shots and Player with Most Tackles.
“If the popularity of Highest Rated Player continues to grow as it has done, we expect the number of bets taken on the WhoScored.com markets to overtake Man of the Match in a matter of weeks if not months.”
WhoScored.com managing director Cristiano Acconci said: “Football fans as well as the media are increasingly looking for alternatives to the subjective views of pundits when it comes to measuring the performance of a footballer. A completely objective and unbiased performance indicator, based on factual information, was needed to fill this gap.”
