Di Matteo leads Sunderland manager betting after Di Canio departure
Roberto Di Matteo is the early favourite to be the next Sunderland manager following the sacking of Paolo Di Canio last night.
Italian Di Canio was dismissed after leading the Black Cats to a draw and four defeats in their opening five games this season, giving him an overall record of just three wins in 13 during his time on Wearside.
His compatriot Di Matteo, a former MK Dons, West Brom and Chelsea boss, leads the next manager market at odds of 11/10, as offered by online bookmakers Bet365.
Next in the betting comes ex-Brighton manager Gus Poyet, with the Uruguayan available at a price of 5/1 with bookmakers Bwin.
Both firms have installed former Stoke chief Tony Pulis as third favourite at 11/2, the Welshman having left the Potters at the end of last season.
Sunderland coach Kevin Ball, himself a 16/1 shot for the top job, will take temporary charge of the team ahead of tomorrow night’s League Cup game at home to Peterborough.
