US Open Tennis: Betting Preview
Just like this summer’s Wimbledon, the US Open has had its fair share of drama and upsets. Just like Wimbledon, Rodger Federer has been knocked out in the earlier rounds by a plucky underdog. However, unfortunately for British Tennis fans, Andy Murray has not powered into the latter stages – he was also on the receiving end of an upset, crashing out in straight sets to Swiss outsider Stanislas Wawrinka. The recent results have thrown up semi-final matches of Novak Djokovic v Wawrinka and Rafael Nadal v Richard Gasquet.
Nadal is the overwhelming favourite to win the US Open, an incredible 1/16 on to come through his semi-final and 5/6 to win the whole tournament. The Spanish star has put his injury ridden disappointments of a few months ago behind him and looks in imperious form. He thrashed Federer’s conqueror Tommy Robredo in the last round and the stats make knee-wobbling reading for his opponents. Nadal has broken serve 29 times in five matches at this year's tournament, he holds a 20-0 record on hard courts this year, and has yet to drop serve at the 2013 US Open. Gasquet is a12/1 outsider to tear up the form book and beat Nadal.
The other favoured player left in the draw is of course Novak Djokovic. The Serb is the number 1 player in the world at the moment and will be desperate to take the crown at Flushing Meadows and banish his recent loss at Wimbledon against Andy Murray. He is 1/4 on to dispatch Wawrinka and 7/5 to win in the final. Wawrinka is an 18/5 outsider to beat the Serb and a long 19/1 for the title.
