Europa League preview: Chelsea v FC Basel
Chelsea are favourites to reach the Europa League final ahead of the second-leg of their semi against FC Basel tonight.
The Blues hold a 2-1 lead from the first leg following a vital injury-time free-kick from defender David Luiz.
Rafael Benitez’s men had led the initial tie through Victor Moses but a Fabian Schar penalty levelled things up for the Swiss side, just a few minutes prior to Luiz’s winning strike.
The Stamford Bridge side will be without suspended left-back Ashley Cole for the match, with likely deputy Ryan Bertrand one of four Chelsea players just one booking away from missing the final, the others being Luiz and midfielders Ramires and John Mikel Obi.
Striker Demba Ba is ineligible for the tie having already played for Newcastle earlier in the competition.
Online bookmakers Bet365 make Chelsea 1/2 favourites to win on the night, with Basel offered at 6/1. The draw is priced at 15/4.
The Premier League club are 1/20 to progress across the two legs, with their continental opponents rated as 12/1 outsiders to reach the final.
The winners of the tie will face either Benfica or Fenerbahce in the showpiece final, with the Turkish side leading 1-0 from the first leg.
