Europa League betting preview: English sides eye last four spot
A trio of English clubs are in Europa League quarter-final second leg action on Thursday as they look to build on a set of mixed results in last week’s first round of matches.
Chelsea are in the strongest position of the three having defeated Russian side Rubin Kazan 3-1 at Stamford Bridge in the first leg.
The Blues travel to eastern Europe as 2.5 favourites to win their second leg encounter, according to online bookmakers Bwin.
Their opponents are offered at 2.65, while the draw can be backed at odds of 3.4.
Tottenham aren’t quite so secure, although it could have been a lot worse for the north Londoners as they battled back from two down to secure a 2-2 home draw in their first leg against Swiss champions Basel.
Bookmakers Titan Bet make Basel 2.5 favourites for the second leg, with Spurs available at 2.75. The draw is offered at 3.5.
Newcastle have the most work to do after losing their first leg 3-1 away to Portuguese giants Benfica.
Titan Bet make Benfica 2.5 favourites to win the second leg, with the Magpies priced at 3. The draw is available at 3.25.
