New Southampton boss faces Everton test

Mauricio Pochettino takes charge of his first Southampton match tonight as his new side host Everton in the Premier League.

The Argentinean replaced Nigel Adkins in the Saints hotseat last week, assuming control of a side who currently sit 15th in the table, three points clear of the relegation zone with a game in hand on all of the teams below them.

Fifth-place Everton, who have a game in hand on all the sides above them, lie four points outside of the Champions League qualification places.

Defender Vegard Forren could make his Southampton debut, while striker Rickie Lambert may start after scoring as a substitute in last week’s draw with Chelsea.

Midfielder Adam Lallana will have a test on a knee injury ahead of the game.

Everton defender Johnny Heitinga could return after two games out, although the match looks likely to come too soon for striker Kevin Mirallas who is recovering from a hamstring injury.

Online bookmakers 888sport make Everton even money favourites to win the match, with Southampton offered at 13/5. The draw is priced at 5/2.
