William Hill appease ITV with Savage ad change
William Hill are to alter a television advert planned for broadcast during this weekend’s FA Cup programming on ITV after the channel decided the commercial featured too much of BBC football pundit Robbie Savage.
According to the Daily Mail, former player Savage, who is one of William Hill’s main brand ambassadors, was set to feature in a series of ‘break bumper’ slots over the weekend in a Where’s Wally?-style role, appearing on computer screens or as a cardboard cut-out.
However the adverts apparently had to be changed after ITV decided that they didn’t want to overly promote Savage, who regularly appears on BBC television and radio.
An ITV insider is quoted as saying: “We work closely with our sponsorship partners to ensure that all material meets the approval of both parties before broadcast.”
William Hill said: “We’re in discussion with ITV regarding the editorial content of our new sponsorship. This is a normal process within the terms of our deal.”
