Chelsea To Face United In League Cup
Chelsea will host Manchester United in the pick of the ties from yesterday’s Capital One Cup draw.
The Blues – who advanced after thrashing Wolves 6-0 on Tuesday – will play last season’s Premier League runners-up in the fourth round of the famous competition when it resumes on the week commencing 29 October after Sir Alex Ferguson’s men narrowly beat Newcastle 2-1 to progress.
The draw also handed Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers a home tie against his former club, Swansea, in another all-Premier League fixture, with Tottenham travelling to Carrow Road to face Norwich and Reading hosting Arsenal at the Madejski Stadium in the round’s other top flight clashes.
Meanwhile, Leeds were rewarded for their shock 2-1 win over Everton with a home tie against Southampton, while Sunderland will face their north-east rivals Middlesbrough after beating MK Dons 2-0 and Aston Villa’s heroics against Manchester City lands them a clash at Swindon Town.
The final fourth round fixture will see Wigan – who handily disposed of West Ham at Upton Park in the previous round – earn a favourable tie with Bradford at the DW Stadium in the only tie that does not involve at least one team that has previously won the League Cup trophy.
