Lottery jackpot winner had thrown away ticket
A New Zealand man nearly lost out on £14m after throwing away a winning lottery ticket.
The unnamed twenty-something player had initially read the wrong results and therefore disposed of the ticket, believing it was a loser.
However upon hearing the next day that the NZ$27m (£13.9m) jackpot was yet to be claimed, he dug out his ticket to double check the numbers and discovered he was an instant millionaire.
The prize consists of cash, two cars, a speedboat, a topped up credit card and funds towards travel and a holiday home. “I originally checked the results on my phone, but I must have got the wrong draw so I thought my ticket was a loser. I chucked it aside and thought 'that was that' and went to work,” the man said.
“It was only when there was so much talk in the town about the unclaimed prize that I thought it might pay to recheck the ticket.”
