England v Ukraine World Cup 2014 Betting Preview
With England’s qualifying campaign for the 2014 World Cup getting off to an absolute flyer with the 5-0 demolition of Moldova last week, there’s understandably a huge groundswell of support for Roy Hodgson’s team as they prepare to take on Ukraine on Tuesday night.
However, after such an emphatic start to their group on Friday night, it would seem that the bookies are being none-too generous with their odds on a repeat England success, with a best value price of 2/5 on offer at totesport, BetFred, BetVictor and Pinnacle and even skinnier prices elsewhere.
With those kinds of prices unlikely to spark much interest, punters are probably better off looking at the other markets in order to eke out a bit of value from the fixture and it is worth looking at England’s formidable home record from their Euro 2012 qualifying campaign for a few handy points.
Firstly, England conceded just two goals at Wembley during their last campaign – both in the same game against Switzerland – and William Hill are currently offering a great bet at evens that the Three Lions will be the only team to find the back of the net in this game, with further value to be found on the correct score with 1-0 and 2-0 both at 11/2 and 3-0 coming in at a longer 7/1.
That said, while Ukraine may not offer much of an attacking threat, we do know from their recent clash with England at Euro 2012 that they are nothing if not hard to break down and given that Montenegro held England to a 0-0 draw in one of the two home games that they dropped points in last time, plenty will be tempted by the fancy price of 11/1 on a goalless stalemate.
