Punter bets £44,000 on Liverpool league win
A Liverpool fan has placed a £22,000 each-way bet on his side winning the 2012/13 Premier League.
The thirty-something man made the wager with bookmakers William Hill at odds of 25/1.
If the Reds win next season’s title he will collect £777,333.33, while a second-place finish for Brendan Rodgers’ side would yield a £205,333.33 return.
William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly said: "There has not been that much movement in or out of Anfield this summer but despite this Liverpool now constitute around 40% of all stakes that we have taken on the Premier League winner market."
Online betting exchange Betfair make Manchester City favourites to win next year’s Premier League at 11/10, ahead of cross-city rivals Manchester United at 9/4.
Chelsea come next in the betting at 9/2, ahead of fellow London sides Arsenal and Tottenham at 10/1 and 33/1 respectively.
Liverpool are joint fifth favourites with Spurs at odds of 33/1.
