Steve Redgrave leads Olympic flame betting
Sir Steve Redgrave is favourite to light the Olympic flame at tonight’s London 2012 opening ceremony in the capital.
The five-time Olympic rowing champion is offered at a best price of 11/10 to receive the honour, traditionally one of the highlights of the ceremony, according to odds comparison website Oddschecker.
Next in the betting comes legendary athlete Roger Bannister, the first man to run a mile in under four minutes, available at best odds of 7/4.
The 83-year-old former Commonwealth Games champion comes in ahead of another octogenarian, the Queen, who is offered at 6/1.
Joint-fourth favourite is 7/1 shot David Beckham, a man who many expected to be competing in the games himself this summer, with the top five on the list rounded off by the restrictively fictional James Bond, also priced at 7/1.
The three hour television spectacle, which cost around £27m to produce, is expected to be viewed by about one billion people worldwide.
