Eden Hazard Chooses Chelsea
In one of the longest-running transfer sagas of the summer so far, it appears that Lille playmaker Eden Hazard has finally chosen a new club from a lengthy list of suitors, with Champions League winners Chelsea his preferred destination.
Although the club have not yet released an official statement on the capture of Hazard, the Belgian’s recent twitter activity certainly seems to suggest that a deal has been finalised, with reports in France suggesting he has agreed a five-year contract.
The 21-year-old midfielder kept his fans in suspense until the very last minute by previously tweeting that he had “made up his mind” over his destination, but no more details were forthcoming until last night, when it seems the deal was finally concluded by both parties.
Reports in France seem to suggest that the guarantee of first team football and a regular position behind the striker made him favour Chelsea over Man City, although it is also believed that the Citizens blanched at his wage demands, which could be as much as £100,000 per week after tax.
Though a transfer fee for highly-rated player has not yet been agreed by Lille and Chelsea, Hazard’s agent, John Bico, recently claimed an agreement on personal terms had been agreed with all interested parties and it looks likely that the transfer will be concluded later on this week.
