Swansea casino facing closure
Aspers casino in Swansea could be set to close following concerns over its commercial viability.
Owners at the Aspers at Salubrious venue have begun a 90-day consultation with staff following a review of the site’s performance.
Launched in 2007, the casino is one of four operated by Aspers, with the company also recently awarded a large casino licence for Milton Keynes.
Aspers chief operating officer Richard Noble put the potential closure down to “extremely challenging trading conditions”, as well as the delay in the opening of the bidding on the small casino licence granted to Swansea as part of the 2005 Gambling Act, which came into force in 2007.
“For five years now we have eagerly awaited the opportunity to bid for the licence which would have allowed us to operate a much more viable and enhanced customer experience with a wider offer than a typical casino,” said Noble.
"Unfortunately, the licence has still not been issued for tender."
