FA Cup final betting preview with Blue Square

Will Chrimes brings you round-by-round betting previews of this season’s FA Cup, with Blue Square.

At a later time than usual Chelsea and Liverpool meet in the FA Cup final, which has a ‘double’ theme to the proceedings. Liverpool return to the scene where they lifted the Carling Cup, and Chelsea, if they win on Saturday, have a chance to make it a double should they beat Bayern Munich in a few weeks’ time in the Champions League Final.

First Roberto Di Matteo must negotiate a tough final with the Reds, who have had a real affinity with cup competitions this year. The Italian continues to make a compelling argument for why he should be given the full-time job next season. Under Di Matteo’s guidance the Blues have improved dramatically and they hammered Tottenham 5-1 in the semi-final to reach this stage.

Chelsea have really struggled against Liverpool over the past couple of seasons and they also ran out 2-0 winners when the two met in this term’s Carling Cup. That defeat was the third time in four games that Chelsea have failed to score against their weekend opponents.

Liverpool’s semi-final was a far tighter affair but they showed terrific spirit to come from a goal behind to beat their biggest rivals. Andy Carroll was the hero that afternoon with a headed winner to make up for an otherwise disappointing season.

Kenny Dalglish opted to rest some of his players on Tuesday night and they paid the price at the hands of Fulham. The midweek result shouldn’t have any bearing on the final as the likes of Luis Suarez will return to the starting XI. Liverpool have struggled at home all season and the players will probably be glad to be away from Merseyside.

There’s no denying that Liverpool have had a poor league season, but if Dalglish can guide his side to two trophies it will give the club a great platform to build on next year. Liverpool have thrived in the cups this year and I fancy them to land the double and get it done within 90 minutes. Blue Square are offering 21/10 on a Liverpool win and that price should be snapped up.
