Robert Baguley wins UKIPT Nottingham
Retired landlord Robert Baguley has won the UKIPT Nottingham Main Event for £210,400.
The 60-year-old Leicestershire player came through a field of 1,625 at Nottingham poker room Dusk Till Dawn – the largest live field ever for a PokerStars-sponsored event – to claim the top prize.
Amateur competitor Baguley began the final table with the second-lowest stack, a long way behind chip leader Iqbal Ahmed, who had been leading the way since day 2 of the four-day event.
Dusk Till Dawn regular Baguley, who qualified for the £700+£70 tournament via a £100 live satellite, made it to heads-up play against Ahmed with a 2:1 chip deficit to overturn.
He managed to overturn his opponent’s lead however, winning a series of important pots to eventually defeat his professional counterpart after only four levels of final table play.
PokerStars player Ahmed collected £125,000 for his second place finish, with Grant Pirie claiming £96,700 for third.
