WrestleMania punting proves popular for online bookies
Last night’s WrestleMania XXVIII event was a betting hit for bookmakers Sky Bet.
The online firm were offering odds on the annual extravaganza for the first time and reported a significant amount of interest, with the eight match card proving to be the most popular betting event of the day behind Sunday’s two Premier League games.
Sky Bet managed to break even across the four hour feast of wrestling, despite some of the contests not going as expected. Indeed the night’s Main Event saw 5/6 favourite John Cena defeated by WWE legend The Rock. Cena had been backed in from 6/4 by Sky Bet punters.
Sky Bet’s wrestling expert Ben Wright said: “We were bowled over by the amount of interest and buzz around the odds and, all in all, it was a very successful first foray into wrestling betting. We look forward to locking horns with the punters at next year’s WrestleMania!”
