Betfair linked to Super League sponsorship
Betfair are in the running to become the next sponsors of rugby’s Super League.
With previous sponsors Engage ending their six-year association with the rugby league competition the headline sponsorship slot is available, with the exchange giants understood to be in a two-horse race with the Stobart Group.
The new Super League season begins in just over two weeks and it is unknown whether a new sponsor will be in place by that time, although Engage themselves were only announced as sponsors just days before the commencement of the 2006 season.
The Engage deal was believed to be worth around £1.2m a year.
Betfair’s current or previous sponsorship packages include tie-ups with the England rugby union team, British football teams Manchester United, Hibernian and Hearts, and football teams in Cyprus and Germany.
The new Super League season starts on Friday 3 February with Leeds v Hull K R and Widnes v Wakefield.
