Liverpool odds-on for Carling Cup triumph
Liverpool have been priced as the odds-on favourites to win the Carling Cup after their semi-final first-leg win over Manchester City.
A Steven Gerrard penalty gave the Reds a 1-0 victory at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday and they now hold the advantage going into the second-leg at Anfield on 25 January.
Bookies are now backing Liverpool to go on and win the competition. They are generally priced at 4/7, with Bet365 offering a best price of 4/6.
Manchester City – who were favourites for the competition before the first-leg – have now slipped in the betting market and are generally backed by most bookmakers at 5/2.
The other semi-final first-leg saw Crystal Palace secure a 1-0 home victory over Cardiff City thanks to Anthony Gardner’s header. Bookmakers still see no real favourite as to who will progress to the final, with both clubs priced odds-on to earn a place at Wembley.
Neither Cardiff nor Palace are seen as likely winners of the competition though, with both clubs generally priced by bookies at 10/1.
If Liverpool manage to progress past Manchester City, it will see the club make their first appearance at Wembley since 1996.
