New South Korea casino proposed
A South Korean airport operator is planning to build a $3 billion casino resort in the country.
The Incheon International Airport Corp says the new project, set to be built at Incheon Airport 30 miles west of Seoul, will also include a hotel, convention centres, shopping malls and hospitals.
It is hoped the development will attract the custom of wealthy travellers from China and other parts of Asia.
The corporation confirmed that negotiations to select a developer were already in progress, with a deal expected to be agreed by the end of June. If all goes to plan construction could start in 2013.
Company CEO Lee Chae Wook said: “We want to build a landmark near the airport that will resemble Singapore’s Marina Bay Sands. The investment will help attract more visitors from China and create more jobs.”
A spokesman for the firm added: "We plan to develop the property like the resorts in Las Vegas or Macau."
