Biggest Weekend In Online Poker Since Black Friday
With the online poker world having gone reasonably quiet since the Black Friday injunction, last weekend saw a partial return to form as big-name players provided the headlines and both ends of the profit/loss spectrum.
Firstly, the week’s biggest winner was Victor “Isildur1” Blom, who bagged himself a cool $482,065 across 9,095 hands, and he was closely followed by none other than Phil “MrSweets28” Galfond on $410,235 over 7,655 hands.
Rounding out the top three winning players was another familiar face in the shape of Ilari “Ilari FIN” Sahamies who banked $315,470 over the course of 4,620 hands, but there were also some recognisable names at the other end of the table.
Railbirds had plenty of action to follow as several players struggled to claw back their arrears for the week, with Davin “mTw-DaviN” Georgi, Ben “Sauce123” Sulsky and Rui “PepperonIF” Cao all finishing six-figures into the red after punishing sessions.
Indeed, it was Cao’s pain that was Isildur1’s gain as a monster pot between the two pretty much dictated who was to be the week’s big winner and who was consigned to being the big loser. In that fateful hand, which occurred in a $50/$100 pot limit Omaha game, the pair got it all-in on Jd 5d 8h flop after PepperonIF had 4-bet shoved.
Isildur1 made the call and tabled Qs Qd Jh Js for top set, while Cao had also flopped a monster with Jc 2c 10d 8d for top-two and a flush-draw. Needing a diamond to take the lead, Cao watched the turn and river come the 6h followed by the 6c to fill Isildu1’s boat and consign him to losing a pot worth $76,680.
