Agüero Makes Dream Debut as City Trounce Swans
Manchester City’s record signing Sergio Agüero got his Premier League career of to a dream start after scoring two and setting up one as he came off the bench in a 4-0 rout of newly-promoted Swansea.
The Argentinean – a £38 million capture from Atletico Madrid earlier this month – did not feature in the game until the second half, but made an immediate impact after coming on with City 1-0 through Edin Dzeko’s goal.
Indeed, Agüero was only on the pitch for nine minutes before he tapped home Micah Richards’ cross from close range and he did even better when he acrobatically hooked the ball back for David Silva to add a third just three minutes later.
“Kun” was finished yet though and the icing on the cake came with a spectacular long range strike in the first minute of stoppage time, with the goal capping what was a truly stunning debut, and one that will have been noted by City’s title rivals.
In truth, however, were it not for Agüero’s electric second half cameo, the scoreline would have arguably been more flattering for Swansea at the end, with Brendan Rogers’ men more than holding their own for 57 minutes on their top flight debut.
In fact the Swans had far more of the play in the first half, enjoying more of the possession and knocking the ball around with some great one-touch football despite not carrying a significant attacking threat. It was a harsh debut lesson in the end, but thankfully for Rogers’ men, they won’t have to face Agüero and co every week.
