Rory McIlroy fancies US PGA chances

US PGA Championship favourite Rory McIlroy is in confident mood ahead of the start of the tournament.

The Northern Irishman won this year’s US Open back in June and believes he is well-positioned for more success on American soil in the last of the season’s majors.

“I'm playing very well, I drove the ball great last week. I'm hitting it nicely,” said the 22-year-old. “As long as I can hole a few putts this week, I feel as if I'm in with a good chance."

Bet365 make McIlroy 10/1 favourite to win the tournament, followed by fellow Brits Luke Donald and Lee Westwood at 14/1. Former world number one Tiger Woods leads a group of players available at 25/1, a list that includes Phil Mickelson, Adam Scott, Jason Day and Steve Stricker. Recent Open winner Darren Clarke – who tees off in the same group as McIlroy – is priced at 150/1 to register his second victory in as many majors.
