MLB: Alex Rodriguez investigated over illegal poker
Baseball star Alex Rodriguez is to be questioned as part of an investigation into illegal poker games.
Major League Baseball have launched the inquiry following a report in Star Magazine that the New York Yankees third baseman was seen playing games in Hollywood hotels and residences. The allegations have been denied by A-Rod’s publicist.
Rodriguez has been involved in poker-related problems before, as back in 2005 the Daily News reported a story about his attendance at an underground poker club in New York. Rodriguez admitted afterwards that “it wasn’t the right thing to do”.
An MLB statement regarding the latest allegations read: “We take this very seriously and have been investigating this matter since the initial allegation. As part of the investigation, the commissioner’s office will interview Mr. Rodriguez.”
Rodriguez is currently on the disabled list and so didn’t feature for the Yankees in Wednesday’s game against the Chicago White Sox.
