Joey Barton rebuffs transfer talk
Joey Barton has moved to dispel suggestions he could be set to leave Newcastle United.
The Toon midfielder – who is in the last year of his contract at St James Park – was linked with Premier League champions Manchester United over the weekend.
The 29-year-old took to social networking site Twitter to say: “Nice to be linked with some big clubs today but I honestly don't want to leave Newcastle. Thanks but no thanks.”
The £2 million-rated man added: “I will most likely leave Newcastle at end of season, when my contract expires and I am no longer employed. It’s out of my hands.”
Should Barton leave Newcastle, the former Manchester City man is 2/1 with bookmakers SkyBet to make the surprise switch to Old Trafford and join Manchester United. Next in the betting are North London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham, priced at 3/1 and 5/1 respectively, with Everton following at odds of 7/1.
