Bookies banking on British betting for Silverstone Grand Prix
William Hill are expecting a surge in patriotic punts as the weekend’s British Grand Prix draws closer.
The bookmaking giants are currently reporting that around 60% of the money they’ve received on the race thus far has been in support of the current runaway leader in the Driver’s Championship, Sebastian Vettel, who is the 4/5 favourite to secure a Silverstone success.
Backing for the Brits is expected to arrive soon however, with Lewis Hamilton at 5/1 and Jenson Button at 10/1 likely to receive most of the attention, although 25-year-old Paul di Resta is 15/8 to finish in the points. Vettel is 1/14 favourite to win this season’s world title, with 16/1 shot Hamilton his nearest rival in the betting.
“The British Grand Prix is the biggest race every year for bookmakers and with Hamilton and Button desperate to close the gap on Vettel we expect the patriotic money to boost industry turnover to above the £2 million mark,” said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly.
