Premier League transfer talk – more than just summer speculation?
With the new Premier League season fast approaching, clubs will be looking to up their transfer activity in the coming weeks in order to secure some all-important deals. While some transfer talk may be just pure rumour and conjecture, there are some players who seem nailed-on to seek pastures new in time for the 2011/12 campaign.
One man who seems certain to leave his current club is West Ham’s Scott Parker. The combative midfielder will almost definitely join a Premier League side following the Hammers’ relegation to the second tier, with Tottenham the even money favourites with Sky Bet to claim his signature. Spurs’ North London rivals Arsenal come next in the betting at 5/1, followed by Aston Villa at 6/1.
Parker’s West Ham teammate Matthew Upson could also be on his way, with Sunderland installed as the 11/8 favourites to sign the England centre back. Newly-promoted QPR are also in the running at 5/2, while Mick McCarthy’s Wolves are available at 5/1. Another player likely to make a summer switch in order to stay in the Premier League is Blackpool midfielder Charlie Adam. The 25-year-old Scot has been linked with a number of top flight outfits, with Liverpool currently listed as 1/10 favourites and Aston Villa and Manchester United some way behind at 6/1.
Birmingham central defender Scott Dann won many admirers following his step up from the Championship and could be set to remain in the top tier with Stoke who are 1/3 favourites to capture the former Coventry man. Aston Villa are also in the running at 5/1, closely followed by Liverpool at 6/1.
