Stoke secure Europa League place
Stoke City qualified for the Europa League last night without actually playing a game.
The Potters booked their place in next season’s competition courtesy of Manchester City’s 1-0 league victory over Tottenham, a win which ensures City will finish the season in a minimum of fourth position, thus securing a Champions League spot for next term. That means Roberto Mancini’s men will not require the Europa League entry offered to the FA Cup winners, meaning their cup final opponents Stoke will claim the place.
Tony Pulis’s side secured the cup final meeting with City via a thumping 5-0 win over Bolton in the semi. Bet365 have City as 5/6 favourites for the final, with Stoke available at 10/3. The draw is priced at 13/5. Carlos Tevez is 4/1 favourite to open the scoring, followed City teammates Mario Balotelli at 5/1 and Edin Dzeko at 11/2. Next in the betting is Kenwyne Jones, the shortest-priced Stoke player at 8/1.
