William Hill buy third US betting business
William Hill have purchased yet another betting business in the US, this time shelling out $14.25 to seal the deal. Brandywine Bookmaking LLC will now be the third William Hill Plc group business to branch into the US sport betting market. William Hill have already taken over American Wagering Inc and Club Cal Nava Satellite Race and Sportsbook Division – two land-based businesses in the state of Nevada. Their latest deal is said to close at $16m due to an additional $1.4m convertible loan on top of the initial cash payment.
William Hill Chief Executive Ralph Topping said, “Brandywine is a good strategic fit for AWI's and Cal Neva's sportsbook operations and will give William Hill a leading position in the US land-based sports betting market. This acquisition offers not only a well regarded management team and Nevada operation but also an exclusive land-based sports betting relationship with the Delaware State government.”
William Hill are slowly but surely expanding their Stateside options; this could well be the start of a long-term position in the US sports betting market.
