Online Poker leads the way for Online Gambling.
Online poker has been a catalyst in the online gambling revolution, a lot of the larger online casinos also have online poker rooms trading under the same name. Online poker revenues have topped $2.4 billion and this accounts for 20% of the overall revenues generated by online gambling worldwide. By 2010, online poker could account for 27% of profits of the online gambling market, which would reach a whooping estimated $6.7 billion. To put this into perspective, last year Las Vegas´ Strip casinos managed to pull in a combined $5.3 billion, it becomes apparent why many experts believe that online casinos are set to outshine all other forms of online gambling, including sports and casinos.
What can the land based casinos do about the boom of online gambling? Not a lot, all they can hope for is to hope that the governments regulate them soon. Or they will be set to lose a lot of revenue. If the governments regulate online casinos and online gambling then that would pave the way to allow the land based casinos to operate an online version of their casinos.
As it stands now land based casinos cannot provide gambling services online to residents of the United States, this is due to the law which prohibits them to run a online casino. But if the land based casinos get their wish to have the online gambling industry regulated then it will level the playing field by allowing them to run an online version of their casinos, thus giving them a shot of the very big pie!
