Euro 2012: Wales Can Upset England Insists Bale
Welsh full-back Gareth Bale firmly believes that his side can upset England when the two home nations meet in their Euro 2012 qualifier at the Millennium Stadium this Saturday.
Gary Speed’s team currently sit bottom of Group G having lost their first three games by an aggregate score of 6-1, but Bale is hoping that the home crowd can unsettle England at the weekend.
“We’re quietly confident in the camp that we’ve got enough to pull off an upset,” said Bale. “People might laugh at us but we fully believe that we’ve got some good players and we’ll be ready to take it to England.”
Bale has been in superb form for his club this season where, playing on the left-wing, he has inspired Tottenham Hotspur to victories over Inter Milan in the Champions League and bitter rivals Arsenal in the Premier League.
The Welsh team will also be boosted by the return of Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey, who has not played for his country since a 3-0 friendly win over Scotland back in 2009 after sustaining a horrific leg injury against Stoke.
However, despite his and Ramsey’s return to the international side, Bale believes that victory will only be achieved as a team on Saturday. “I don’t think any player can carry the whole team and it’s about playing well together,” he explained.
“As long as we work as a team I think we can go a long way.”
