Cheltenham Gold Cup betting preview
The Cheltenham Festival reaches its climax today with the running of the Gold Cup, the week’s showpiece event and one of the highlights of the British racing calendar.
Last year’s contest was billed as a showdown between jumping giants Kauto Star and Denman but Imperial Commander sprung a surprise by securing victory with an impressive performance.
All three run again this year, with Bet365 making Imperial Commander the 9/2 favourite. Next in the betting comes the Nicky Henderson-trained Long Run at 5/1, followed by Kauto Star and Denman, both of whom are offered at 8/1.
Imperial Commander trainer Nigel Twiston-Davies was in confident mood ahead of his 10-year-old’s attempt to retain the cup. "Everything has been 100% with him for the last few weeks - they've all got him to beat," he said.
The race, which is scheduled for 3.20pm, is run over 3 miles 2 furlongs and 110 yards with 14 runners set to compete.
