Champions League Draw: United v Chelsea and Spurs v Real
An epic UEFA Champions League quarter final draw has seen Manchester United paired with Premier League rivals Chelsea in and all English quarter final while Tottenham Hotspur take on Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid.
Holders Inter Milan will face German side Schalke 04 while favourites Barcelona will face a daunting trip to the Ukraine in the second leg of their quarter final tie with Roma conquerors and Champions League surprise package Shakhtar Donetsk.
The draw will make for some mouth-watering ties and is certain to capture the imagination of football fans the world over, in particular the followers of the three English sides who will know that a chance history at Wembley Stadium beckons.
Clearly Manchester United’s clash with Chelsea will be a hotly-anticipated contest given that the two sides met in the 2008 final, and the winner of that Champions League grudge match will face a semi-final tie against the winner of Inter v Schalke.
On the other side of the draw, Tottenham will be looking to continue their fairytale run in their maiden Champions League campaign against Real Madrid, but should they beat the Spanish giants they’ll face another stern test in Barcelona or Shakhtar.
The structure of the draw means that an all-Spanish final between Barcelona and Real Madrid is out of the question, but one of Manchester United or Chelsea could yet face Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley in an all-Premier League affair should they progress.
