Manchester United Handed Nani Boost
Manchester United’s hopes of progressing into the quarter finals of the UEFA Champions League have been handed a timely boost by the news that in-form Portugal midfielder Nani will be fit to face Marseille tonight.
Having drawn the first leg in the Stade Velodrome 0-0, the pacy winger was initially a doubt for the return fixture after suffering a gashed leg in United’s heavy defeat at Liverpool, but reports indicate that the injury is not as serious as first thought.
As such the player will now line-up with his teammates at Old Trafford tonight as United continue their pursuit of the treble and he will also be joined by midfielder Michael Carrick and the returning Antonio Valencia, who featured against Arsenal.
“Nani and Michael Carrick trained on Sunday and Monday and both will be involved tomorrow,” manager Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed yesterday, although he did not confirm whether the pair would feature in the starting line-up or begin on the bench.
Marseille, for their part, will boast a virtually full strength squad for the vital clash and are in a rich vein of form having not lost in their last ten games, though their preparations have been rocked by a sexual assault allegation aimed at striker Brandao.
