Golden Palace win Justin Bieber hair auction with $40k bid
Online casino GoldenPalace.com has placed the winning bid in a week-long auction for a lock of teen pop sensation Justin Bieber’s hair. The online casino’s final bid was $40,668, with all of the proceeds going to the Gentle Barn Foundation, a charity that helps abused farm animals and children who are at risk or have special needs.
The auction started on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, after the talk-show host tweeted that she wanted a lock of the singer’s hair as a belated birthday present and he turned up to her studio with the hair in tow, or rather, in a box.
The money raised from the clipping of his famous fringe is reported to have been the largest amount raised from celebrity hair since Elvis Presley’s locks were auctioned off for $15,000 in 2009. Bieber himself is currently on the UK leg of his latest tour, while his newly shorn locks will follow in his footsteps with a tour of their own, with proceeds again going to charity.
Golden Palace are making a name for themselves as far as bizarre auctions go. Some of their other extravagant purchases include the ‘Beckham Ball’ (a football David Beckham missed a crucial penalty with in 2004), Pope Benedict XVI's used VW Golf, and William Shatner's kidney stone.
As a result, the online casino has raised awareness and over $1,000,000 for a number of different charities around the world.
