Chelsea v Manchester United Betting Odds Preview
A potentially decisive fixture in the Barclay’s Premier League this evening will see leaders Manchester United face a tricky trip to Stamford Bridge to face top-four chasing Chelsea.
As ever, there will be no love lost between the two bitter rivals and the home side in particular will be looking to secure a morale-boosting victory that will simultaneously lift their season and damage United’s title chances.
The Red Devils currently sit four points clear of second-placed Arsenal in the league table and will be looking to extend that gap to seven with victory, but a slip-up could see the Gunners cut their lead to as little as a point if they win their game in hand.
Chelsea, meanwhile, will be able to oust London rivals Tottenham Hotspur from fourth spot with victory over United, putting them just two points behind Manchester City with a game still in hand going into the business end of the season.
As you would expect for such an explosive clash, there is very little to choose between the two sides in terms of betting, with Chelsea the narrow favourites with Bet365 at 5/4 and United priced at 12/5 due to their largely unconvincing away form.
The draw, meanwhile, comes in at 11/5 but it is a result that would not particularly benefit either team and the chances of both sides settling for a share of the spoils look slimmer than the price would suggest, so perhaps it is a bet to avoid this time out.
In the scoring markets there will certainly be a lot of buzz over Fernando Torres, with the Spanish striker having long established a reputation for scoring against United and – in particular – giving a torrid time to the normally dependable Nemanja Vidic.
Given that defensive partner Rio Ferdinand has more-or-less been ruled out from playing, it will be down to young Chris Smalling to partner Vidic in defence and Torres could well profit from his inexperience and find the net first at a decent 11/2.
