Arsenal Lead Cup Final Betting
Arsenal play Birmingham in the final of this year’s Carling Cup on Sunday and bookies across the land have unanimously named the Gunners as favourites to lift their first silverware since 2005.
However, despite widely-predicted success, there have been conflicting stories from the Arsenal camp about the fitness of captain Cesc Fabregas and his participation could have a huge bearing on the result.
Fabregas was at the heart of everything good about a blistering start to Arsenal’s midweek game against Stoke, but following his removal on 14 minutes the Gunners lost their way when deprived of his craft and vision.
With mercurial winger Theo Walcott also definitely out of contention, this could be a major concern for Arsenal as they take on a Birmingham team that is sure to defend in numbers and deny the Gunners time and space on the ball.
Thankfully for Arsenal, influential striker Robin Van Persie is expected to be fit again and he could be the player to unlock a Birmingham defence that hasn’t looked half as solid since the departure of Scott Dann to a season-long earlier this campaign.
However, for their new-found fragility in defence, Birmingham have started to score more goals thanks to the form of striker Nikola Zigic and you can get a tasty-looking 10/1 on the big man finding the net first and 3/1 on him scoring any time in the game.
Meanwhile, although the 8/15 on the Gunners succeeding on their first trip to the new Wembley Stadium is unlikely to set many pulses racing, the selection of prices on them winning to nil do look more tempting, with 6/1 on 2-0 the pick of the bunch.
