Champions League betting: Arsenal - Barcelona clash

16/2/2011
Arsenal are facing a massive battle at the Emirates tonight in the Champions League first leg. Old nemesis Lionel Messi is playing. His record on English ground isn’t great, but he is in great champions league form. He has scored 13 goals in his last 11 Champions League starts.

This time Arsenal will be missing Nasri, however Barcelona will be missing captain Puyol. With both teams in excellent form, it will be up to Arsenal to keep up with the pace and trickery of both Messi and Xavi.

Arsenal have met Barcelona five times in Europe and are yet to register a win, which is why Barcelona are 5/6 to beat Arsenal, and the Gunners get 3/1 with most sports betting sites.

Another big question is the amount of goals the game will produce, are we going to see a cagey performance from the teams, or more open play? Odds on a draw are at 11/4 with Will Hill, and repeat of last season’s 2-2 is available at 14/1 with Bet365.

Lionel Messi, with a poor record on English soil, but in excellent form is 4/1 to score first by Bet365 and 1/1 to score anytime.

Will Hill give Persie 7/4 for anytime goal scorer, along with Arshavin at 11/4, Walcott at 10/3, and Fabregas at 10/3. They also give anytime goal scorer Messi at 8/11, Villa at 4/5 and Xavi at 5/1.
