Jake Cody wins £1,500 side event at UKIPT
Another rising star of poker, Jake Cody, has added to his impressive poker playing record at the UKIPT. He won the £1,500 High Roller side event at the Dusk Till Dawn Poker Club yesterday, for an impressive £34,200. He saw off some big names, including Dave ‘Devilfish’ Ulliot on the final table, who finished 5th for £11,400.
Also filling up his trophy cabinet, was the 10th annual European Poker Awards, at which he won two awards. Fittingly, he was playing the £1,500 High Roller event at the time of the ceremony, and was therefore unable to collect the awards; Rookie of the Year, and, Player of the Year. That combination of awards is quite rare, but then again it’s rare for a player to win both the WPT & EPT titles in one year, let alone a relative newcomer.
Former psychology student Cody mainly plays online and has a string of good results, including a 2nd place finish in a $1,500 event for a win of $198,000. The EPT & WPT winnings netted him over $1.6million in 2010.
Let’s hope he uses his winnings to buy-in to the WSOP. If he were to win a bracelet, he would become only the third player in history to win poker’s triple crown of titles; EPT, WPT, WSOP; after Gavin Griffin and Roland de Wolfe.
