Ladbrokes and Playtech Consider Merger
One of the online gaming industry’s biggest software companies, Playtech Ltd, are considering a move to join forces with one of the UK’s biggest betting companies, Ladbrokes. Since the boom of internet gambling Ladbrokes have had a presence but their stature is somewhat less significant than their high street might. Indeed, it is this situation that Richard Glynn, the company’s recently appointed CEO, has been tasked with addressing along with growing the company organically.
One way to overcome this is to merge with the online gaming industry’s biggest players, Playtech, and form a company that would not only be worth around £2.2 billion, but would have the capability to transfer all of Ladbrokes’ betting shop experience to the online world. The talks are still at an early stage with each company exploring the potential benefits and pitfalls of merging. Indeed, Ladbrokes are considering every opportunity carefully and won’t be jumping into a relationship with Playtech for the sake of it. If the two companies do merge however their power within the online gambling world will be immense and send a strong message to the other large operators in the industry.
