England Friendly Set To Be A Close Call
England’s international friendly match with Denmark tonight is expected to be a closely-fought affair, with bookmakers Bet365 predicting that there will be very little to pick between the two sides.
England manager Fabio Capello has admitted that he will tinker with his starting line-up for the game in Copenhagen, with young Arsenal prodigy Jack Wilshere set to partner Frank Lampard in midfield.
The Chelsea player, meanwhile, will be handed the captaincy due to the absence of both Rio Ferdinand and Steven Gerrard in the side, meaning that he’ll have to lead by example in England’s engine room.
Given that Lampard has long been criticised for his inability to form a cohesive partnership alongside Gerrard in central midfield, his pairing with Wilshere may leave him free to roam forward at will.
As such, the 17/2 on Lampard being the game’s first goalscorer looks like a fairly decent price, though he lags behind forwards Wayne Rooney (5/1), Jermain Defoe (11/2) and Denmark’s Nicklas Bendtner (6/1).
In terms of the game itself, Bet365 are backing England to just about edge the betting with a price of 5/4 on the win, with Denmark not far behind at 11/5 and the draw after 90 minutes somewhere in the middle at 9/4.
